O'Bannon State Park Horse Trail Riding
We decided to go somewhere different that the club has not been to yet. We went to O'Bannon State Park. It is on the Ohio river near Corydon Indiana. It is about an hour more than going to Potato Creek, but well worth the effort. It has 80 miles of marked trails and unknown hundreds of miles of unmarked and shortcut trails. All are very pretty and worth riding. There are lots of hills, some long and easy and some challenging.

![]() | You can ride up and see the Ohio River. The banks are tall and steep. It's not a good idea to ride into the river, but it is a beautiful sight. |
![]() | The Blue River meets the Ohio in the park. A horse trail goes right into the river. It is about a foot deep and the bank has no drop-off. It's a fun splash around. You can ride alongside canoes and kayaks. |
![]() | Creepy old 1800's cemetery along the trail ;) There are old foundations, roads and other leftovers from before the park was founded. Adds interest to the trails. |
![]() | There are nice picnic areas, rest stops, small cabins, etc along the trail. Very nice. |
![]() | Lots of tall trees and nice big trails. |
![]() | More pretty trails. Look at the picture and realize how high up I was to get this angle on the picture. |
![]() | Lots of dry river beds. |
![]() | Lots of rocks on the trails. Best to have good horseshoes. This is a rather worse case picture of a rocky trail. Most are not nearly this rocky, but best to be prepared. |
![]() | Fox hollow. Big open grassy area. |
![]() | The campground is very nice. Half of it is very woodsy with close trees and some small parking sites. Half of it is very open and grassy, a lot like Tippecanoe State Park (Winamac). A very quiet campground. Primitive camping with a nice shower house. Water taps spaced around the area within easy walking of the sites. |
![]() | Between the woods and grassy areas is the shower house, playground, picnic area, horse wash and square dance stage. All nice and well kept. |
![]() ![]() | A 15 minute drive gets you to some really cool caves. Definitely worth visiting. |
